Sway Commander Module Installation Location
Question:
How critical is the location of the sway commander module? My trailer is a 2019 Keystone Cougar 29RLD, and it has an enclosed under belly. The dealer installed the system on the battery tray at the front of the trailer slightly off center. The location is slightly less than 4foot and exposed since it is not inside the under belly. I am concerned that this will effect the operation. The dealer has not installed a sway commander before. i

Good question! I found the two notes below in the instructions for your Sway Commander system. After going over them I would recommend a relocation. It is important that the system be mounted in the center it to accurately measure the sway of the trailer. Mounting it off center is likely to cause lower than expected results. By having it less than 4' behind the hitching location this will also cause the system not to be as effective as you will want. With 4' being the minimum I would want it to be mounted at least there but preferably closer to the 8-10' mark. I would suggest having them relocate it to the inside of the underbelly to a more appropriate location for best results..
NOTE: The controller must be mounted to a frame
crossmember between 4’ and 10’ behind the hitch point.
NOTE: The controller must be mounted in a level condition,
centered on the crossmember, and according to the
orientation arrow on the label (Fig.2A).
