Does Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Meet Towing Capacity of 2020 Subaru Outback
Question:
So does the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver C67JR have the right towing capacity for my 2020 Subaru Outback? I see the hitch is rated for 4,000 lbs but does that cover what my Outback can pull? Also, what trailer wiring do I need?

Expert Reply:
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C67JR has a towing capacity of 4,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 600 lbs, which does exceed the maximum capacity of your 2020 Subaru Outback. According to the owner's manual, 2.5 L models of 2020 Outback can tow a trailer up to 2,700 lbs while 2.4 L models can tow a trailer up to 3,500 lbs, so the Curt trailer hitch has more than enough capacity.
To complete the towing set up on your 2020 Subaru Outback, including a brake controller, you will need the following parts:
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467
- etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches # 989900
- Brake Controller Installation Kit # ETBC7
- Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR (Recommended)
I highly recommend the Tow-Pro Elite because its control knob gives you total control over your braking power and installs wherever you like, so no bulky unit is taking up any space in your Outback.
I've added links to instructions and video reviews for you to check out as well.
