Differences Between a Reese Sidewinder and Revolution on a 5th Wheel Trailer and 2012 Ford F-150
Question:
Is the Sidewinder the same as the Reese Revolution? Im considering the purchase of a Rockwood Signature ultra lite fifth wheel model 8244WS which comes standard with the Reese Revolution and I want to make sure it will work with my 2012 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2inch bed. Further, is the Reese R20 the correct hitch to use? Thanks.

A Sidewinder and a Revolution are the same thing. It is called a Revolution when it comes as OEM equipment on a trailer. There are some design differences as well in terms of how each attaches to the trailer. Those are the only differences.
To determine if the Revolution offers enough extra clearance for your truck and trailer, there are some measurements to look at. First, measure from the center of the hitch jaws to the back of the truck cab and add 22 inches (length of Revolution extension). Then, measure the width of the trailer overhang and divide by 2 to get half.
If the distance from the hitch to the truck cab plus 22 inches is at least 4 inches more than half the trailer width, you can safely tow the trailer with your truck.
The Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 is a great choice for trailers weighing under 20,000 pounds with under 4,000 pounds of pin weight. For an installation kit, use # RP50081-58. You'll also want to use custom Wedge # RP44FR if you are using this M5 hitch with a Sidewinder.
