Recommended 7 way and Brake Controller for 2017 Ford Escape with Factory Towing Package
Question:
I am purchasing a travel trailer that has brakes and a 7 pin connector. I currently own a 2017 Ford Escape with the tow package that supplies a 4 pin trailer connection. What do I need to convert to a 7 pin and power the brakes in the travel trailer? Thank you

We can absolutely help you out with this, and it's going to be really easy. You can go about this two ways, the easiest installation possible or one that is a little bit more labor intensive. I'll give you what you need for both options.
For the easy way, I recommend using the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L which is a universal kit to install a 7 way connector on the back of your vehicle. This kit allows you to just plug in your factory 4 way, run a wire to the battery and connect to ground and not have to worry about the brake controller wiring; it also keeps your 4 way intact so it is available if you ever need to tow a trailer with a 4 way again.
Because the # ETBC7L kit doesn't require a brake controller wired in the vehicle, you'll need to use a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Mobile # C51180. The Echo is controlled via your Bluetooth enabled smart phone and is the easiest to install brake controller on the market since it plugs in between the trailer's 7 way and the tow vehicle's 7 way connector.
If you want to install a more traditional brake controller that sits in the cab of your vehicle, you'll want to use the # ETBC7 instead of the # ETBC7L, since it comes with the additional wiring you'll need to wire a 7 way from a brake controller inside the cab of the vehicle. For a brake controller, the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is one of our most popular brake controllers and will provide you with proportional braking for a trailer with up to 4 axles.
I've included a video review of the P3 as well as an installation video on a similar 2017 Ford Escape for the brake controller.
