Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2002 Toyota MR2 with a Demco Aluminator Tow Bar
Question:
I want to flat tow a 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder. I have a Demco Aluminator tow bar. I am looking at Roadmaster baseplate # 1169 - 1. Is adapter # RM-033 correct for this application? Anything else I need?

First, if your 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder is an automatic, it must be towed on a trailer only, it cannot be flat towed. If it is a manual, it can be flat towed. Check with the vehicle owners manual to confirm.
The Roadmaster base plates, # 1169-1, are correct for the vehicle. You can use the adapter # RM-033 but, to make the draw-bar arms on the base plates removable, I recommend using adapter # RM-032. This adapter comes with quick disconnects so you can remove the draw-bar arms making the base plates nearly invisible on the vehicle when you are not towing it.
You will also need safety cables like # RM-643. The coiled design will keep the cables off of the ground. For lighting, there are a few options. If you do not plan on towing the vehicle often, I recommend using a magnetic lighting system like # RM-2120.
If you will towing the vehicle frequently a diode kit, # RM-154, is a more permanent installation. I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation for you.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
