Troubleshooting Replacement Hubs Not Fitting Over Detail K2 Utility Trailer
Question:
I bought the replacement idler hub based on a response I found on your website by Jason S. Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer # K2MMT5X7 and if you have a VIN that begins with L1 then you will use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 8inch to 12inch Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 # AKIHUB-545-2-2K. So I have the L1 vin so I bought that part. As it is in this picture it doesnt fit. Do I remove the two large bolts?

I believe the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-2-2K is the correct hub for your Detail K2 Utility Trailer, however it looks like the problem is that the inner cones from the old bearings are stuck to the spindle. Most likely the hub wasn't lubricated quite enough, or they got too hot for some reason, and the excess heat caused these components to lodge into the spindle. When you removed the hub these pieces stayed behind.
This is specifically the cone/lip you see on the outer portion of the spindle and the raised section on the inner part, and is why the new hub isn't fitting properly.
You will need to try and remove these bearing cones from the spindle, which could be difficult depending on just how firmly attached they are. You will have to try to be careful not to damage the spindle during this process, which may end up close to impossible depending on how much they are stuck. These cones could essentially be welded to the spindle.
You can use a dremel tool to try and chip away enough until you're able to lodge something between the cone and spindle to pry it the rest of the way off.
If you do end up having to damage the spindle the axle will need to be replaced. We don't have this component available as a separate replacement part but it can be obtained from the manufacturer directly.
