Installation Questions About Redarc 331-BCDC1225D In-Vehicle DC to DC Battery Charger

Question:

Just bought this dc to dc charger from you to install in honda oddessey minivan. Van already has installed a 220ah 2x6v battery bank in rear with 22foot of 2awg thats connected and fused at the alternator, 200a solonoid relay out back on the batteries. 2 concerns: 1. Instructions call for input connected to the starter battery. Can I just take that off the alternator post as I have been doing? I am worried that the factory wire to charge the starter battery is insufficient to also carry the additional 60a load the redarc will be pulling. However that leaves the input wire seeing zero volts every time the alternatorignition shuts off, rather than 12v as the instructions call for. Will this repeated hard resettinginch of the redarc harm it? 2. Will hooking the redarc input through the existing relay at the rear of the van, also in effect causing repeated hard resets, harm the unit? I can leave it or chuck it, its a cole hersee 200a continuous duty solenoid. TIA

According to my contact in the tech services department at Redarc Electronics, the input for the charger must be connected according to the instructions, using the positive terminal of the starting battery. The charger will only pull as much current as the alternator will output, so the factory wire will work fine. The charger will continue to charge the auxiliary battery bank until the start battery depletes to 12.7V. It will resume charging the battery bank once the start battery goes back up to 13.2V. Redarc states that you won't need a relay and that the charger already has the isolation feature integrated into it.
