Roof Rack Bike Rack, Hitch and 2 Bike Hitch Bike Rack For a 2012 Subaru Outback
Question:
Will the Yakima Frontloader fit the factory crossbars on a 2012 Subaru Outback? I am also considering a hitch mount bike rack system for 2 inch receiver. What is a good one for two bikes. If I choose a roof rack style, I want one that keeps the bikes from flopping around as we will sometimes drive off road.

Yes, the FrontLoader, # Y02103, will work on the factory crossbars on your 2012 Subaru Outback Wagon. This would be an excellent choice for safely and securely carrying bikes on your roof rack. We have a video installation on a Subaru Outback for you to check out, see link.
For a 2 inch receiver hitch, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75673. We have an installation video for you to review before the installation that should help, and I have attached the installation instructions for you to review. A 1-1/8 inch hole saw is required for this installation but other than that the installation is pretty straight forward.
The good thing about using a receiver hitch for bike rack installation is that it will be easier to install and use a bike rack at the rear of the vehicle than on the roof of the vehicle.
For a sturdy 2 bike rack , the Swagman Titan 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting, Item # S63400, would be a great choice, check out the video review of this rack that I linked for you.
At this time we cannot recommend a roof bike rack or hitch mounted bike rack for off road driving because the manufacturers of these bike racks do not test them for off road conditions.
