Why Does Trailer Wiring for 2017 Toyota Sienna Require Running Wire to Vehicle Battery

Question:

thank you. Not the answer I wanted to hear! It looks terrible to have a wire under the car which then attaches to the battery. My plan was to run the wire with the car's wires along with the frame/doors then connect the trailer harness wire to the fuse box in the empty slot. Is that an option or am I just crazy for thinking of doing that?

Trailer wiring like the # C56106 that you reference attaches to the vehicle's battery directly as a way to bypass all of the vehicle's delicate wiring circuits to draw power for the trailer's wiring. If you ran the power wire to a circuit on the fuse box you'd no longer have the circuit protection and potentially could damage your vehicle. I know it's kind of a drag to have to run a wire all the way back from the rear of your 2017 Toyota Sienna to the vehicle battery but it's the safest and best way to ensure you don't damage your vehicle wiring! Plus installing it any other way will void the warranty.

I am sure people have ran the wire to the fuse box without major issue but we have to recommend you stick with the instructions. Another option that I think you'd like is that you can route the power wire through the interior of the vehicle to protect it as that's one of two recommended ways to do this. I attached a help article on running the power wire that I think you'll find informative.
