Can Factory Brake Control Port Be Used on 2011 Honda Pilot When Using Tow Ready Harness #118253
Question:
I previously purchased and installed part # 118253 on my 2011 Honda Pilot. 1 can I consider this equal to the factory installed wiring harness, thereby using the vehicle specific brake control harness? 2 If yes to question 1: I previously purchased a Tekonsha Prodigy for my Nissan Xterra, which has never been installed, can I purchase the vehicle specific brake harness without the controller? Thanks

The Tow Ready Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118253, can be used as a replacement for the factory wiring harness on your 2011 Honda Pilot with the factory tow package. The # 118253 wiring harness will plug into a connector under the rear bumper of your vehicle and give you a 7-way connector on the rear of your vehicle.
The factory brake controller harness port is usually installed on vehicles with a factory tow package on the vehicle. I would recommend to look under your dash for the harness. It will be located underneath the dash and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the brake pedal. I included a picture of where the factory port is located. There will be a 4-pin connector that mates with the one on the Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter, part # 3070-P. The # 3070-P adapter can be purchased separately.
If you do not have the factory brake controller harness port under the dash you will need to hardwire the brake controller to your vehicle using the Tekonsha Pigtail Wiring Harness, part # 7894. I am including a link to a FAQ page on brake controllers.
