Is Sidewinder Required for 5-1/2 Foot Bed on 2013 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra with a 5.5 ft box and I just bought a 1995 5th wheel coachman Catalina. I’m just curious what my options are. Would a slide hitch work or do I have to get a sidewinder?

The 5-1/2 foot bed of your 2013 Toyota Tundra will require the use of a Sidewinder in order to safely make a sharp turn with your fifth wheel trailer. With a bed that short, and any type of sharp turn, the trailer will crash into your Tundra, resulting in significant damage.
To find the correct Sidewinder what you will need to know is the manufacturer and model number of the pin box on your fifth wheel and match that with the correct replacement. For example, Sidewinder # RP34FR will replace Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD, as well as Fabex PB 600 Series (68200) pin boxes.
If that information is not available you are going to need to take some measurements to determine exactly what you have. I have added a link to a help article called "Measuring to Determine the Correct Replacement Pin Box for a 5th-Wheel Trailer" which has the exact measurements you need to take. I have also added a link to our entire selection of Sidewinders for you to take a look at as well as a help article on Sidewinders you may find useful.
The hitch you get will also need to be compatible with a Sidewinder, and a very solid hitch that is compatible is the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047; you will need the Custom Wedge # SWW-03 to ensure a good fit between the hitch and Sidewinder. To mount the hitch in your 2013 Tundra you will need base rails, either the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035-309, which does require drilling into your frame rails to install, or the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails # RP50084-58, which does not require drilling into your frame to install.
I have added links to a number of video reviews for you to check out as well.
