Brake Output Sticks/Does Not Go Away On Tekonsha Prodigy P2 With Trailer Unplugged
Question:
My prodigy controller stuck showing 2.4 on the display. I unplugged the trailer and 2.4 was still displayed but the brakes released. I then unplugged the cable from the rear of the prodigy, waited a few seconds, plugged it back in and everything returned to normal. Is there a issue with my controller? Should it be replaced

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 can be reset by pulling power from the controller via the plug on the rear and then waiting a few minutes before reattaching which it sounds like you have done. This would have then cleared any errors on the brake controller. The constant output error could have been caused by either a wiring short or an internal short in the brake controller. I recommend you look over the wiring on both the tow vehicle and trailer. If all is good and you continue to have issues then that would point to signs of an internal short in the brake controller and would therefore need replaced.
If the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller does need replaced it would be a great time to upgrade to the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 which has storeable settings for up to five different trailers and a customize-able display which is easier to read and use when compared to the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 and Tekonsha Prodigy P3 both use the same plug as well.
