Wiring For 2020 Ram 1500 To be Flat Towed Behind RV

Question:

I need wiring for my blue ox tow bar for lights to flat tow 2020 ram 1500. What is your suggestion? I am pretty sure I have all of the other parts I need. I know my base plate and tow bar are compatible. i have safety cables. Do i need a relay?

I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit part # RM-15267 to flat tow the 2020 Ram 1500. The diode kit will allow your Ram's lights to illuminate in conjunction with the motor home's lights. The kit comes with a 6-way plug for the front of the Ram and a coiled cord to plug to connect the truck's plug with 7-Way on the motor home so it's a nice clean install instead of having hanging wires. I have attached a helpful installation video on a 2019 Ram for your reference. (The install will be the same on the 2020).

It sounds like you have a good start on the parts that you need to flat tow since you already have the base plate and tow bar with safety cables. You will need the above mentioned tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system and a possibly a high low adapter.

The 2020 Ram 1500 does not require a brake light relay to use a supplemental braking system. For braking system, I highly recommend the Stay-IN-Play DUO supplemental braking system part # SM99251. The Stay-IN-Play is designed with a small actuating cylinder that depresses the brake pedal when activated by the main unit under the hood that is connected the motor home's brake signal. The best thing about the Stay-IN-Play it is a low maintenance install it and forget it system compared to the recurring systems that need to be removed from the vehicle's floorboard every time you want to drive the truck.

If your motor home brakes happen to be air brakes, I recommend the SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes part # SM99243 which is the same setup but for air brakes.

Finally you may need a high low adapter to tow the vehicle level with the motor home. In order to know how much rise or drop it will require to tow level some measuring is required. I have attached a helpful article that helps you figure out which high low adapter may be needed and our selection of high low adapters.
