Is There an Optimal Loaded Weight for Trailer Leaf Springs
Question:
I understand that the capacity of e44SR is 2,500lbs and when at full capacity compresses about 1 1/2 inches. What is the optimum loading weight and compression for continuous operation? Is there a rule of thumb for optimum loading of trailer leaf springs - something like 60 of capacity, 75 of capacity, etc?

There isn't a definitive rule of thumb when it comes a proper or ideal load on trailer leaf springs like the 5,000 pound # e44SR you were looking at (as long as they aren't overloaded). Obviously a completely empty trailer is going to ride a bit different and be a little "bouncy" compared to one that's fully loaded, but there isn't necessarily a "sweet spot" in between that you want to try to stay at. If it becomes an issue you can always add some suspension upgrades such as the Lippert Bolt-On Shock Kit # LC281281 to help smooth out the ride.
The fact is that all trailers will ride a bit different in this regard based on weight distribution, cargo capacity, suspension components, overall design, etc. My best recommendation for finding a good constant weight for comfortable travel is to just go for a couple of test drives. You should be able to pretty quickly finding a good range you want to stay at to avoid too much bouncing back there due to it being too empty related to its spring capacity.
