Can I Re-Use Hubs and Drums From a 3500-lb Axle on a New 6000-lb Axle?
Question:
I’m wanting to put these 6k lb trailer axles in place of my 3500 lb trailer axles I have now.. my question is can I use my hubs and electric brake system off the 3500 lb axles on the 6k lb axles

Expert Reply:
No, you won't be able to use the hubs and brake assembly from your 3500-lb axle on your 6000-lb axle. The hubs from the 3500-lb axle use an # L68149 inner bearing, which is a different size than the # 25580 inner bearing used on a 6000-lb axle like the Dexter # 8327830 ; it should also be noted that the outer bearings, seals and races will be different as well because of the size of the spindles on the axles. You'll also find that a 3500-lb axle uses 10" drums like the # AKHD-545-35-K and the 6000-lb axles use 12" hub and drum assemblies like the etrailer # AKHD-655-6-K .
You may still be able to use the same wheels and tires if they're large enough to fit on a 12" hub and drum and have the same bolt pattern, so that would be the one place you may be able to transfer parts over.
