Can I Use Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier With A Tow Dolly

Question:

I own a Winnebago Intent RV and I am looking to mount a spare tire PLUS have the ability to tow a vehicle. The spare tire is a 245/70R-19.5 with an outside diameter of about 32inch and is quite heavy. The RM-19522 would probably be perfect but it limits me to flat towing and I have yet to decide what vehicle to tow and how. The maximum capacity on my RV hitch is 5,000 pounds. Should I decide to tow a vehicle on a dolly then the RM-19522 wouldnt work for me and Id like to find out what components would be best to use for this application. I would appreciate your feedback with your suggestions so that when I decide on a vehicle Ill know which way to go. Thank you.

The Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier w/ 2" Receiver Opening part # RM-195225 will work well for your 245/70R-19.5 spare tire. I spoke to Roadmaster and the spare tire carrier can be used when you tow a vehicle on a tow dolly with the motor home. However, you do want to keep in mind the use of this spare tire carrier cuts the tongue weight rating of your motor home's hitch by 33% because you are adding extra leverage on the setup. This is a great option to carry the spare tire if you decide to flat tow or dolly tow.
