Can I Move the Mounting Spots on my Sears Cargo Box to Work With Bars Spread Further Apart?
Question:
I have an older roof top carrier from sears its a sport 15 cav. I have not used it in a few years and want to put it on my newer 2014 honda crv with factory roof rack. The roof rack is complete with crossbars but not adjustable. The old carrier rack spacing is 24 inches. My newer car rack spacing is 34 inches. Can I drill new mounting holes through my carrier or do I need a whole new one. Thanks

Yes. You are able to move the mounting hardware on your Sears Sport 15 roof top cargo carrier to accommodate mounting it on wider crossbar spreads. You'll need to drill new holes to match the new spacing and then re-seal the box by filling the old holes with a sealant like the Loctite # LT37467 .
If you need new mounting hardware, you can use the Replacement Hardware Kit for Sears Cargo Boxes # TH05603 which will provide you with new U Bolts for mounting your Sears box to cross bars no more than 4" wide and 2" deep.
If you wanted to upgrade your rooftop cargo carrier, a great option that will work on the 34" spread on your 2014 Honda CR-V is the SportRack Horizon # SR7011 . This box will mount on a maximum cross bar spread of 35" and provides 11 cubic feet of storage in a sleek design that will still allow you to mount other rooftop accessories like a bike rack or ski/snowboard carrier.
