Troubleshooting Trailer Light US To Euro Wiring Conversion

So, Ive utilized part 118158 and created a converter for my US vehicle to tow a European wired trailer. The only item not working, is the right break light and right hazard flasher. Any ideas. I still need to complete basic trouble shooting hook converter to another trailer, hook trailer to another vehicle.

I recommend checking the vehicle side and trailer side connectors for any signs of corrosion or damage and repair as needed. If the connectors look fine, I would test the vehicle side trailer connector with a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to make sure the vehicle is sending power to the trailer. I would test each pin as a helper activates the different tail light functions on the vehicle.

If there is no power to the vehicle brake and hazard lights, check your tow vehicle fuses as one may be blown. Also test the wires going in and out of the converter box the circuit tester.

If there is power to the trailer side connector, the issue will be on the trailer. Start inspecting the wires for frays or other damage. If no damage, there could be a poor ground connection so inspecting, cleaning, or redoing those connections is another step you can take.
