Parts Needed to 5th Wheel Tow with a 2017 Ram 3500 Dually Using B&W Companion for OEM Pucks

Question:

Im strongly considering the BandW RVK3600 for my 2017 Ram 3500 Dually which has the 7 pin trailer wiring harness so Im assuming I dont need that accessory, but what about lube plate, breakaway switch etc. This is my first hitch and fifth wheel trailer, so I need to know what I need.

The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3600 is an excellent option and I'm glad to hear that you are strongly considering it for your 2017 Ram 3500 Dually. Not only does the Companion fit directly to your OEM puck system but it also utilizes 1" thick dual jaws for a very secure connection and a cam-action latching handle that allows you to easily release your king pin even if you are terrain that would normally cause binding for other hitches. I have attached a video and some pictures of this on a 2018 Ram 3500 Dually so you can get a good idea what it will look like installed.

Since you already have the in-bed 7-Way you should just need a lube plate (or plates for the future) like part # RP83002 as your 5th wheel trailer should come with a breakaway kit (including the pin). If you don't already have one let me know and I can help you find one that will be compatible. Aside from that the only other accessory for your trailer hitch hitch system would be the B&W 5th Wheel Lifting Device # BWRVXA3130 to help get the hitch out of the bed.

I'm not sure how big your 5th wheel trailer is but if it is on the heavier end of the towing capacity for your Ram then you might want to add some suspension enhancement and possibly an aftermarket transmission cooler. I have attached links to both of these products so you can filter through our selection. If you'd like to add one or both of these to your pickup just let me know and I'd be happy to make specific recommendations for you. I am also attaching a link to our FAQ for 5th wheel towing that you can check out.
