I have been trying to figure out what each color on the trailer wiring harnesses does what. Its almost like Nissan does not want me to know which is which maybe Im just a dummy, but could you please tell me what color does what on a 2012 Nissan Xterra X, please

It can be really difficult to determine factory tow circuit wire functions on a vehicle like your Xterra by color alone. This is because vehicle manufacturers like to switch up the colors they use and they aren't always standard. So you definitely don't need to feel dumb for not knowing this.

I myself wasn't able to determine what color wires carry what circuit to the factory trailer connector on your Nissan Xterra. If you are needing to verify each function your best method will be to fuse a circuit tester like # PTW2979. You can have a buddy run through each lighting function in the cab while you test each of the wires to see which one carries power for each function.
