How To Position the Wheels/Tires On a Camper Outside the Body

Question:

I have a 81 inch wide trailer...I am wanting to run the wheels on the outside of the trailer...I was gifted a 86.50 hub face axle ... would this be sufficient...also do to the way the trailer is made I would need to move the leaf springs for mounting or add to the trailer...the distance from hub to where the springs could mount would be 14 inches....the trailer will only be used as a camper

The trailer axle you were gifted would not be sufficient to position the wheels/tires outside of the camper body because once you subtract the width of the camper from the hub face length on the axle, you will still need to have enough room on each side for both half the width of the wheel/tire and clearance between the wheel/tire and trailer which will need to be around 1-2". In order to position the wheel/tires outside of the trailer you would need to have a hub face measurement that exceeds the width of the camper, plus half the width of the wheel/tire, plus the clearance needed between the wheel/tire and trailer which should be 1-2" on each side.

The best option we can offer you is the Dexter Trailer Axle part # 7359765-I with the Loadstar ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire with 14" White Wheel part # AM3S440 which will position the wheels/tire outside the camper and then also provide sufficient clearance between the wheel/tire and trailer. The spring seats on the axle would need to be moved in and re-welded.

I have attached a full list of our wheels/tires and trailer axles for you as well.
