Solutions for Matching Height of New Truck with Trailer Equipped with Range Hitch Gooseneck Adapter

Question:

We have an Andersen Ranch Hitch Adapter on our fifth wheel. We also have a BandW Hitch in our 2006 Dodge Ram. The trailer rides level and loads easily. We have loved this system. Our problem is we just bought a new 2018 Ram 2500 with a BandW hitch. This truck is 3 1/2” taller than our old truck. The Ranch Hitch Adapter is in its shortest position now. What can we do to get our trailer to ride level? All the hitch adapters we have looked at are all the same length. Does someone sell an overal shorter one?

If the Ranch Hitch Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 on your trailer is adjusted to its shortest setting you can also try adjusting the pin box itself. Most pin boxes are adjustable depending on the specific holes that are used for mounting - see if you can adjust this any further up on the factory wing brackets.

If this doesn't offer enough adjustment or it's already as high as it can go the next option is to actually raise the trailer to better match the new truck height. There are various ways to do this depending on the axle setup of the trailer but one of the more popular methods is with an Over-Under Conversion Kit, which will flip the leaf springs so they sit on top of the axle. This raises the trailer by the combined height of the axle diameter and leaf spring stack.

If you happen to have a 2-3/8" diameter round axle with double-eye leaf springs you can use part # K71-384-00 and if you have a 3" axle you will use part # K71-385-00. If you have a different axle type just let me know and I can see what other kits will work well.
