Will the hitch work well with 2 1/2inch to 2inch reducer?

Yes, the # AMSC6HD could be used with a hitch reducer sleeve like you mentioned but since these types of adapters can cause a bit of movement your best option would be the version of this ball mount that is designed to fit 2-1/2 inch hitches directly part # AMSCV-6. This has the same 6 inch drop but has a higher 18,000 lb towing capacity.
