Trailer Hitch that Does Not Require Bumper Trimming for a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan
Question:
I am leasing a 2012 Tiguan. The advertising says no drilling but a review mentioned that you had to cut out a section of the bumper?

That is correct. On several of the trailer hitches for the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan, there is fascia trimming required to install the hitches on the vehicle. Even if trimming were not required, you will want to check the terms of your lease to see if a trailer hitch can even be installed just to be on the safe side.
If you will be doing some towing I recommend adding the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For trailer wiring use # CU26FR. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the wiring as well.
If you want to use the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier, Curt states you must use stabilization strap # 18050, for their warranty requirements.
