8,000 lb Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies That Measure 12-1/4 Inch x 3-3/8 Inch

Question:

I read in another question/answer that there is available a 12 inch x 3-3/8 inch electric brake assembly for 8000 lb axles with 4 hole backing plates. I am wondering if this item has been listed on the site yet as I am needing to track down brake assemblies that will fit my drums and axle flanges. I have been told that the only size available for 12 inch drums is 2 inch wide, obviously this is not the case. Thanks

I saw the Q&A you were referring to, which is about a decade old as of this writing and there are no 12" diameter x 3-3/8" wide brake assemblies we offer, just the 12-1/4" diameter x 3-3/8" wide # AKEBRK-8 that are rated for 8,000 lb axles.

You may need to change your hub and drum to get one compatible with the larger brakes that are now available. To do this you will need to know what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them.

For an 8,000 lb axle the most common bearings are Inner Bearing # 25580 and Outer Bearing # 02475, and if that's what you had you would be able to use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 8,000-lb Axles # AKHD-865-8-K, which would be compatible with the electric brake kit I referenced.

I have added a link to video reviews as well as a help article on trailer bearings I recommend taking a look at.
