How Does Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera Get Power

What turns on the camera when you put it in reverse and where is it located? Please e mail a wiring diagram if you find one.

Expert Reply:
The power wire from the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002 gets connected to the reverse light circuit on the tow vehicle. This means when the vehicle is put in reverse the power along this circuit is what actually triggers the camera and powers it on.
The Smart Hitch Backup Camera is designed to plug right inline with a factory 7-Way connector but if your vehicle isn't equipped with this it just needs to be hardwired to the reverse circuit wire. You would need to use a circuit tester like # PTW2992 to find the correct wire on the vehicle for this application.
There isn't an official wiring diagram available for this camera system but I have attached an installation video below so you can get a better idea as to how everything connects.
