Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Towing Capacity of 2018 Tesla Model X

Question:

Hi there - the hitch that comes with the model x has a low tongue weight 120lbs. I would like to upgrade it. Is that possible with the product you offer? Will the existing hitch materials need to be removed? Thanks

It is possible to upgrade the hitch on your 2018 Tesla Model X with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit part # 76143 which rated for 5,000 lbs gross towing weight however you are only as strong as your weakest component and in this case that would be the vehicle itself.

I took a look at the online owner's manual for the 2018 Tesla Model X and according to Tesla the loaded weight of a trailer towed by the model X with 245/45R19 or 275/45R20 tires should never exceed 4,960 lbs. A Model X with 285/35R22 tires should never tow a trailer heavier than 3,480 lbs.

They also make it clear to never exceed the gross vehicle weight rating of the Tesla which is printed on the vehicle certification label in the Tesla. This weight would include the vehicle weight itself with all of the cargo, occupants and tongue weight of the trailer.

If you decide to install the Draw-Tite hitch you would need to remove the existing hitch and impact structure. The hitch will replace the impact structure.

Does any of the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch for Model S or for Model X fit the 2016 Model X?

We only have one trailer hitch available that's designed to fit the 2016 Tesla Model X with the Draw-Tite # 76143. It does however have a nice hidden design similar to the Stealth models. There isn't a Stealth option available for this vehicle.
