Installation of Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch # C11391 on 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe

Question:

2012 Civic Si Coupe install of Part Number C11391. The description say easy install with not drilling required and cutting only of the heat shield. Which is fine, but after looking at my Si I noticed the place protector goes all the way out and completely covers the rails. If this is the case would cutting of the plastic shield need to be done in order to install this or am I missing something? Quick response would be great as I need the hitch in 2 weeks.

According to the installation instructions on Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # C11391, for your 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe, the lower part of the under body panel may need to be lowered to access the heat shield fasteners. The heat shield will need to be trimmed for hitch clearance, but the under body panel does not need to be trimmed. After trimming the heat shield and reinstalling, then you will raise and reattach the under body panel before installing the hitch to the vehicle.

I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt hitch.

If you will be using the Curt hitch for a non-trailer load like a bike rack or cargo carrier you will need to use a stabilizing strap like the Curt Support Strap, part # 18050. It is required by the manufacturer (Curt) to give extra support to the hitch accessory. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.

I am including a link to a video of the Curt hitch being installed on a 2009 Honda Civic. The vehicle is different from your vehicle but the video will give you an idea of what is involved with the installation.
