Using # 3025-P Wiring Adapter to Install Brake Controller on 2000 Chevy Silverado Without Tow Pkg
Question:
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado without the factory tow package. I have already installed a hitch a 7-prong plug in the back of the truck and utilized the factory wiring under the spare tire. I am installing the Tekonsha Primus IQ as a controller. Can I just plug in the 3025-p to the port under the dash? The port does exist, but is any other wiring necessary under the hood? Again, the truck does not have the factory tow package, but the port is available for the 3025-p plug.

The 3025-P will indeed plug into the connector under the dash, but because the truck was not equipped with the tow package, you may need to make a few additional connections in the engine compartment and install a fuse or two.
If you look at the provided photo, you can see the two fuse locations and the wires that will need to be dealt with. The power distribution box under the hood will have two posts, the red wire you see in the photo with the ring terminal on the end of it will attach to the post closest to the firewall. A 30 amp fuse will need to be placed in the distribution box in the location closest to the post, if it is not there already. The blue wire will have the connector on the end of it removed, and will be attached to a length of 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1. The wire would be ran under the vehicle to the 7-way connector (avoiding any moving parts like steering or suspension components and anything hot like the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe) and attach to the terminal for the brake output.
If you need the 12 volt accessory pin on the trailer connector activated, you will run another length of wire from the other post on the distribution box back to the appropriate pin on the connector (see photo). A 40 amp fuse will need to be placed in the location closest to this post.
The article I will link to will explain the process in more detail.
