Determining if Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier # RM-195125 Will Interfere with Rear Bumper

Question:

Does this require a receiver extension? Has anyone had trouble with Law Enforcement and obscured plates?

Helpful Expert Reply:

From the center of the hitch pin hole on the Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier # RM-195125 to the back of the vertical locking latch there is a distance of right at 8 inches (see attached image).

What you can do on your vehicle is take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch receiver out to the outermost edge of the rear bumper. As long as this dimension is less than 8 inches the Spare Tire Carrier will work perfectly and there won't be any need for an extension piece.

We have not had any customer feedback regarding problems with it obscuring the rear license plate. With that being said this type of carrier is normally used on small RVs or passenger vans where the license plate is typically located off-center, usually on the left side. If you have a standard passenger vehicle you may need to re-locate the plate so that it's visible when the carrier is installed.
