Recommended Weight Distribution for 2,500 lb Dry Trailer for Hauling Cars

Question:

Hello, Looking for some help with a weight distribution system. The weight of the empty trailer is 2,500lbs. I will be towing small English sports cars that weigh in between 1,200 - 2,000 lbs. Will be towing with a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Any suggestions on what system to go with? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When looking into purchasing a Weight Distribution (WD) system you want to find one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer, which you can use part # e99044 for, along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

If you don't put anything behind the rear axle of your 2019 Toyota Tacoma then I recommend the Reese Strait-Line # RP66083 because it has a TW range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs which covers most of your TW range from 250 lbs - 675 lbs (15% TW at the 4,500 lbs of car and trailer) and it utilizes one of the best sway controls on the market as it corrects sway before it starts. To complete this setup you need a 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # 19286 hitch ball.
