Comparing the Different Harnesses To Install a 7-Way On a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser

Question:

Goal is to add 7-way trailer connector with brake controller wiring to a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser. Im looking at 2 viable options, and not certain which is better. My question is at the end. Option #1 is to use a wiring harness with converter and 4-way flat connector part #C55365, and kit #ETBC7 to add the 7-way and brake controller wiring. Option #2 is to use the kit #22550 with ModuLite controller along with a 4-way flat connector harness, such as kit #C55365. Question: Does the ModuLite controller associated w/ the universal kit #22551 provide superior performance or better protection of vehicle electronics as opposed to vehicle specific kits that do not include this controller?

In order to install a 7-way trailer connector and brake controller on your 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser I recommend going with option one that consists of the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C55365 and the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers part # ETBC7. This option will be easier to install and it will be more cost effective.

In regard to Universal Wiring Harness w/ ModuLite and Brake Controller Harness part # 22551, the ModuLite is really no different than that of the one on the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness. They both serve the same purpose which is to combine the brake and turn signals as well as provide circuit protection for the vehicle. The only real difference is that the later installs with a screw which makes it more secure than the double side tape used in the former.

If you don't already have a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 which is a great middle of the road option with most of the same features as the other top tier choices.
