Best Brake Controller for 2004 Chevy Silverado Towing Trailer Through Mountains
Question:
Looking for proportional brake controller for 2004 Silverado. Well be pulling travel trailer up in the mountains of North Carolina. Do you have a suggestion on a particular model that can read the pitch of the mountains and auto adjust so I am not fiddling with it while driving?

Since you are going to be travelling through the mountains you will definitely want a proportional brake controller with automatic leveling. The reason for this is a proportional controller will respond to your vehicle's deceleration and apply the brakes with the same force as you are slowing down. If you were to use a time-based brake controller, you would have to be adjusting the power to your brakes on the fly. You also want a controller with automatic leveling so you do not have to consistently fiddle with the its leveling as you go through the numerous inclines and declines of the mountains.
The brake controller that meets all of these criteria and but remains budget-friendly is the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 and I highly recommend it for you to make it much easier to traverse the mountains while pulling your travel trailer. The only thing to note is that no matter which proportional brake controller you use, if the decline is steep enough and long enough, you may need to use the manual override to activate the trailer brakes because the trailer will be pushing the truck and you may not be slowing down consistently (depending on how you drive and the traffic, etc).
To install the Primus IQ in your 2004 Chevy Silverado, you will only need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3015-P as your Silverado should have the factory 7-way.
I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
