Installing Universal Trailer Wiring on 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe  

Question:

I installed on vehicle. Instructions mention if two wire system to ground red wire. When I Tetreault with a test light all terminals work as supposed to. But when I plug trailer in. I thing works. Tested trailer on another vehicle everything works. How do I know if I am suppose to ground red wire or not?

Your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe has the stop lights and turn signals carried on separate wires which would be considered a 3 wire setup. A wire for running light, turn signal, and stop light. If the universal style trailer wiring kit you have requires you to ground the red wire if it's a 2 wire setup you would not follow that step. Most likely the red wire would then run to a stoplight circuit.

Best trailer wiring solution for your 2017 Santa Fe though is a custom fit install kit like the # C56184 which installs easily by just plugging inline with the taillight circuits and eliminates any guess work.
