What is Sway Control and Can it Be Used with 2011 Ford Flex

Question:

Greetings, I have three separate questions regarding your hitch #75679: The Ford Flex 2011 towing guide website URL is copied below says that a Class III Trailer Tow package which includes a class-exclusive Trailer Sway Control will allow me to easily tow up to 4500 lbs.inch First question: What is a Trailer Sway Control? Second question: is that Trailer Sway Control included as part of your hitch #75679? Third question: Your website says that your hitch #75679 exceeds industry standards and will allow for a GTW and a WD GTW of 4000 lbs. Yet the Ford website says that the Flex can tow 4,500 lbs. Where did that extra 500 lbs go? Sincerely,

Trailer sway control is a type of device designed to either prevent or reduce trailer sway when on the highway. A very common style is the frictions way control like the # 83660 which attaches to the tow vehicle and the trailer and uses friction between the two when the trailer turns to try and reduce sway caused by high winds or passing semi trucks. See attached review video.

Sway control is not included with the Draw Tite part # 75679 but it can be used with it like the # 83660.

Hitch capacities are determined independently from the vehicle they were designed to fit. So for a hitch with a higher capacity that fits your 2011 Ford Flex we have the Curt # 13551 which can tow up to 5,000 lbs. You would be limited by the lowest rated component in your towing setup which in your case would be the vehicle.
