Trailer Turn Signals Change Directions With Brakes Applied On a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
I recently installed a Tekonsha 7-prong wiring harness on my 2007 RAM 1500 and Im having a strange problem: blinkers operate normally until the brake is pressed, which causes them to switch direction. So, if I have the left blinker activated it operates normally until I depress the brake which causes it to switch to the right side then changes back to the left when the brake is released, and vice versa. This only affects the trailer output, the turn signals on the truck operate normally. I have double checked and re-done all the ground attachments on the harness and have good continuity between the harness and the frame and from the ground output on the trailer connector to the frame. Ive inspected the entire harness for insulation wear or anything that could be shorting the brake and turn signal circuits with nothing obvious and verified all tap connections are correct and solid. All other operation is normal. The harness is new and has only been installed about 2 months. Please Help!

The issue you are having with the trailer lights on your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 sounds like an error with the trailer integrated protection module (TIPM). This is a pretty common fault on these vehicles and is very expensive to replace therefore your best option would be to bypass the trailer integrated protection module (TIPM) using the Wiring Harness Kit part # C59496 and the 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Adapter part # ETBC7. The Upgraded Modulite splices in behind the taillights and then draws power from the battery so you don't overload the vehicle's taillights or have to worry about the trailer integrated protection module (TIPM). This will be your only option save for taking your truck to the dealer as the trailer integrated protection module (TIPM) is not repairable and must be replaced. There is unfortunately nothing I can do to troubleshoot this for you.
