Switching to Timbren Axle-Less Suspension for 2012 Coachmen Clipper
Question:
Hello, I have a 2012 coachmen clipper 16fb that we’ve recently gutted and rebuilt. It has a single 3500lb axle that I’m wanting to swap out for something rated heavier. I’m not wanting to overload my trailer with more weight I’m just wanting a little more peace of mind that the components holding up my trailer are more than enough. I would like a system in the 5k range. I know I will need new hubs/electric brakes/wheels etc but I’m wondering if axle less is a good way to go?

I have a solution for you, but the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer suspension # TASR5200S05 is not the best option because of the stiffness of the springs that this system uses. The 5200-lb Axle-less system springs are meant to carry a much heavier load than the approximately 2500-lb Coachmen Clipper, and when you use an overrated suspension system you're potentially causing way more jostling, bouncing and in turn, wear and tear on your camper.
The Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # ASR35HDS05 would be a much better fit for your application. Since this is a "Heavy-Duty" axle system, it comes with the bigger brakes and bearings that you find in the regular 5200-lb system. The difference is the softer springs to make sure your trailer isn't getting jostled around like you might find when using the # TASR5200S05 system. The # ASR35HDS05 has a 4" lift for extra ground clearance, which is another added benefit of going with an axle-less suspension system.
If you're going to be using this trailer off-road at all, and would like to use off-road trailer tires you can use # ASR35HDS02 . These offer the same Heavy-Duty setup, with a spindle that provides space for wider tire/wheel combo that you'd encounter when using special off-road tires.
