Do Axles Need to be Replaced With Ned Brakes on 1997 Coachman Catalina
Question:
I have a 1997 Coachman Catalina. My local brake shop says the only way to replace the brakes is to replace both axles. Is this true or are they trying to upsell me?

If your axles are in good shape and your 1997 Coachman Catalina uses standard electric brakes like what comes in the kit # AKEBRK-7-SA then they are definitely trying to upsell you. However, since your camper is over 20 years old, if it still has the original axles on it then it is possible that they have worn down over time and need to be replaced or they use a different braking system where the brakes install more permanently (or use a different mounting method) on the axle. If this is the case then definitely change them, but generally the axles do not need to be changed out with the brakes.
