Thule Cargo Box for 2013 BMW 535 GT
Question:
Good evening, This may seem a silly question but I have a BMW 535 GT with fixed roof mount points. Just wondering which size Thule cargo box I need to order and is it dependant on the distance between those fixed mounts? I know the tailgate will factor in.

The great thing about Thule, aside from the quality of their products, is that their boxes are going to be adjustable to fit a great deal of crossbar spreads on different vehicles. Your 2013 BMW 535i GT is going to have a 28-1/2" spread with the fixed mounting points. Since your rear-hatch is going to be one of the deciding factors in the box that you'll be able to use, you'll need to measure from the center of your vehicle's front cross bar to the point where the roof meets the rear hatch. I'm attaching a picture that has a chart from Thule that has the minimum required measurement to keep that cargo box from contacting the rear hatch of your vehicle; as long as your measurement is longer than the "Front Clearance" number, you'll be able to use that cargo box on your vehicle.
You should have a number of Thule cargo boxes to choose from that will fit your BMW, but I recommend going with the one of the Thule Pulse cargo boxes since they tend to be a bit wider and shorter than some of the other options. The Thule Pulse M # TH614 which provides 14 cu/ft of storage and only requires 42-5/8" from the center of your front crossbar to the rear hatch. This cargo box can carry up to 110lbs and provides a great amount of storage in a smaller sized box. It is lightweight at 34-lbs and comes equipped with a lock and key so your cargo stays secure.
Depending on what your hatch clearance ends up being, you could go up a size to the Pulse L # TH615 for 16 cu/ft of storage, or even up to the Thule Force line similar to the Thule Force XT-L # TH6357B, which are going to provide similar storage in a sleeker looking box that would look great on your BMW.
If you don't already have the crossbars, the Thule AeroBlade Edge and Podium Style Foot pack # TH7603B-TH7604B , with Podium Style Foot Pack mounting kit # THKIT3039 provide a clean, factory roof rack look with an aerodynamic bar that fits perfectly on the BMW 535 GT.
