Tow Dolly Recommendation to Tow a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Automatic Behind a Motor Home
Question:
We have a 2011 VW Jetta auto. trans and we would like to purchase a tow dolly that will safetly handle this vehicle. I have previously only flat towed a Jeep behind our M/home. What are the advantages to a tow dolly and are there any safety concerns I should knoiw about with regards to towing a dolly. What model would you suggest, a part # 2000-1 or a 2050-1. Thank you.

According to the research I did, a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta automatic has to be towed on a dolly. It cannot be flat towed with all 4 wheels down. You will need to check the owners manual for verification. The tow dolly I recommend is the same one that you have referenced, # RM-2050-1. The advantage of this tow dolly is that it has a lot of built in features, such as electric brakes and lights, that will minimize the amount of accessories you will need.
In order to operate the electric brakes on this tow dolly, you will need to have a 6-Way round trailer connector on the motor home, and an electric brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
Make certain that the vehicle is secured in the dolly and that all lights and the brakes are working properly before each tow. If everything is in order then the safety concerns are the same as as flat towing a vehicle or towing a trailer.
