Solution When Correct Size Replacement Leaf Springs Aren't Available
Question:
Im hoping to replace the axle and springs on my early 1960s boat trailer. I have found a good axle, but the springs are creating a problem. As the pictures show, there is a 4 leaf double eye spring, and the length is about 34inch measured at centers of eyes with no load on the axle, trailer jacked up on frame. The longest 4 leaf spring I have found is 30. I assume total weight on the axle will be in the 1500 - 2000 lbs range. I need to replace the bushings in the connections as well. Any ideas or help you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The longest double-eye leaf spring we have available is the 27 inch # SP-210275, which as you know won't work with your current suspension setup.
If you aren't able to locate an appropriately sized leaf spring stack for your boat trailer (you will want to look for one a bit shorter than 34 inches since they do stretch over time) then your only option for maintaining a standard suspension setup will be to cut off your existing hangers and weld on new ones to match a new leaf spring size. If you are okay doing this then you just need to make sure you choose a leaf spring that's rated for the capacity of your axle. I have attached an article on axle placement that you might find helpful.
I have also included a link that will take you to our available selection of hangers that you can look through if you decide to go this route.
Another option I recommend considering if you haven't already purchased the new axle is to use a Timbren Axle-Less System instead. For your trailer the Timbren 2,000 Pound # A20RS545 should work great. These independent units install on any frame width, can eliminate the need for a thru-axle altogether, and will keep you from having to worry about leaf springs at all since their AEON progressive springs take their place.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this system just so you can see exactly how they work and install.
