Can 12 Ply 225/75R15 Tires be Safely Used on a Wheel with a 2,830 lb Weight Rating

Question:

Hello, Can I install 12 ply tires on a 225/75r15 6 Lug wheel that is rated for 2830lbs? The reason I ask this question is because I want the additional blow out protection the 12 ply tire adds and the extended life they offer. The trailer is only rated for 8000lbs so the worry of over loading the wheel is not of concern.

While we don't carry 225/75R15 tires with a 12 ply rating, I can say that they will work just fine on a wheel rated for 2,830 lbs like the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20532 so long as you don't exceed the weight capacity of the wheel and that you have a properly rated valve stem.

For the higher load range I recommend using the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906 because it is able to handle a max of 200 psi which should be well over what you are needing. The metal valve stem is required for any psi rating that is over 100 psi.
