Will Hitch Lock for Kuat Transfer Bike Rack Work on Other Bikes

Question:

Thanks Kyle S. This is a follow up to my original question. I bought a Apex Tray-Style Hitch Bike Rack BC-7845-4. Do you have a suggestion on a threaded hitch pin lock for this bike rack or another sort of lock to secure my bike rack to my hitch. The hitch receiver is not hollowed out on my bike rack due to the threaded hitch pin.

The Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock for Kuat Transfer Bike Racks - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # HLT will only work with Kuat Transfer bike racks. Bike rack locks are generally specific to the rack manufacturers, though we may have an option. The etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98879 has a pin diameter of 1/2", but would only work if you have a hollow shank bike rack. This is for a 1-1/4" receiver.

Otherwise, there is still an option to secure your rack by using the Saris Cable Lock - 8' Long # SA981 or Deadbolt 10' Long Cable Lock # CAB-10. Or if you let me know the brand and model of bike rack you have I may be able to find something that works for you.

There isn't a threaded hitch pin we can know will work with this particular bike rack. The best option is going to be the one I mentioned before, which is to use the Saris Cable Lock - 8' Long # SA981 or 10' Long Cable Lock # e98891. You would need to thread these cables between the rack and your hitch, either around the tube of the hitch, or through the safety chain holes on the side of the hitch receiver. This will be a great way to secure the rack and help protect your investment.
