Can Rola Enclosed Cargo Carrier 59110 Be Used in Hitch on Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a Lance pull behind travel trailer with a continuously welded 4 inch rear bumper. I mounted a Swagman 2 inch receiver on the bumper. Is their any prohibition from mounting an enclosed cargo carrier on my trailer bumper? Do you know of any other receiver hitch enclosed cargo boxes for this application?

Helpful Expert Reply:

GearSpace has no prohibition from use in a hitch on the rear of a travel trailer but the 2-inch hitch must be rated as Class III or Class IV and of course have a tongue weight (TW) capacity that exceeds the total weight of the loaded carrier. Since the carrier weighs about 170 and can handle loaded cargo of up to 250-lbs, this means the hitch should be rated for at least 420-lbs. Since your Lance trailer's bumper is continuously welded it should be up to the task.

The carrier include locks/keys for the lid and tray but you might care to add anti-rattle hitch lock # 63232 for less rattle and added security for the entire carrier.
