Is the Extension Needed for the Thule Roof Basket on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab
Question:
I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with the factory roof rack and I was looking into getting the Thule Roof carrier Part number #TH859XT and I was wondering if you know/suggest I should get the carrier extention part number #TH8591XT? The regular cargo carrier measures 49inch long outside diameter and the extention adds 20 inches. Would this be to0 long for this vehicle? I do not have the specs with me, but I wanted to see if you knew.

First, make sure that your 2007 Toyota Tacoma has the crossbars that run side to side on the vehicle roof. If it does, make sure that they are between 20 inches and 37 inches apart center to center
If you need to add crossbars to side rails that run front to back, use Yakima RailGrabs, # Y00138, and Crossbars, # Y00409.
The overall length of the basket like you said is 49 inches, that is 4.08 feet long. Even on a double cab model, this will take up most of the roof. What I recommend if you get the basket is to try just the basket first. If you decide that you need the extension, # TH8591XT, you can always get it later.
