I was able to track down the online version of the owner's manual for your 2014 Audi Q5 and it does state that snow chains should only be installed onto the rear wheels and can only be used on certain tire sizes. For compatible tire sizes it says you need to contact a local Audi dealer.

I'm not sure if the dealer told you chains couldn't be used because of your particular tire sizes or if they just assumed they couldn't be installed, but I do recommend verifying this. The manual goes on to say that for compatible tire sizes the chains cannot be any thicker than 13.5 mm.

The three most common tire sizes for your Audi Q5 are 235/55-19, 235/60-18, and 255/45-20.

If you have 235/55-19 sized tires I recommend the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH01594250. If you have 235/60-18 units I recommend part # TH01594247 and if you have the larger 255/45-20 tires the part # TH2004705255 will work great.

These durable, easy-to-use chains require only 12 mm of internal clearance, making them compatible with your vehicle as long as you have the appropriate tire sizes. Their anti-scratch nylon bumpers will protect your rims from scratches and the color-coded connection points allow for a really quick installation.

I have attached a short video review on the 2018 model Q5 that you can use for reference.
