How To Fix the Cotter Pin Not Catching the Ears On Spindle Nut For a Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a spindle that measures exactly the same as a #3500 spindle, but the nut is a 13/16-20 thread. With that being said, the spindle nut shroud that is held in place by the cotter pin is too short for the idler hub I purchased from etrailer. Can I drill a new hole in the spindle for retaining the spindle nut?

I do have an option for you but I do not recommend drilling a hole into your spindle in order for the cotter pin to catch the shroud on your spindle nut. I would first make sure you have the washer installed behind the spindle nut between that and the outer bearing. If you do then it might just be easiest to install more washers, part # SW1000 until the gap is filled. There is also the option of obtaining a longer spindle nut at your local hardware store which might be a better option for you but we do not offer this.
