Using 2 Inch Accessory with 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
How do you fit a 2 inch receiver to a 1 1/4 inch receiver

Expert Reply:
If you are needing to use a 2 inch accessory such as a ball mount or bike rack with a 1-1/4 inch receiver on your vehicle you will need to use an adapter between the two. We have a nice selection of 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapters available, such as the excellent Brophy # HTAD or the # HT5R that also provides 5 inches of rise.
This will insert into the 1-1/4 inch receiver on your vehicle to provide a 2 inch receiver on the other end to which you can install the accessory. Please just keep in mind that the use of any hitch adapter does reduce the tongue weight of your trailer hitch by 50 percent. For example if your hitch features a 200 pound tongue weight capacity it will be reduced to 100 pounds when using the adapter.
If you can tell me a bit more about what you are needing to do I will be happy to make some more recommendations.
