Installing Trailer Brake Controller on 2016 Jeep Cherokee with Tow Package
Question:
My 2016 Jeep Cherokee has the tow package which I believe means it is wired for a brake controller. My problem is getting to the area where your article say the gray connector is under the driver side dash. There is a panel that protecting this area that has a couple screws. When I remove the screws, that panel still fights being removed. Are you familiar with this panel, if so what is the trick to remove it without damaging it? Given the number of Jeep Cherokees on the road, I am hoping this is something you have experience with and a quick answer for.

If your 2016 Jeep Cherokee is equipped with the factory tow package you are correct that there is a brake controller port located behind the dash to allow for a plug-and-play install. You are also right that it is a gray connector that's hidden behind the black cover to the left of the steering column.
After you remove the mentioned screws from this panel there is a small tab that's still holding the piece in place. You just need to carefully pry this tab back to release and remove panel so you can access the plug. You might need to dig around just a bit as the plug tends to be tucked behind other factory wiring.
To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 you were looking at to this connector you just need the Plug-In Harness # 3014-P.
