How to Determine if Thule Rooftop Cargo Box Will Allow Rear Hatch of 2015 Toyota Highlander to Open

whats the best unit for our SUV with OEM cross bars... we want to use it for luggage etc when traveling cross country i really like your website... but am still a bit confused... example.. does the Thule Motion XT XL Cargo Carrier work for me? seems long and i need to be able to open the hatch completely thanks so much!!

Thanks for the compliment about the site and I can confirm for you that the Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box # TH629806 you referenced will in fact fit on the factory roof rack of your 2015 Toyota Highlander. What this means is that the box will fit the dimensions of your bars, as well as the spread of the bars, which are the two determining factors when it comes to fit.
To ensure a rooftop cargo box will allow you to open the hatch on your '15 Highlander without interference, all you need to do is measure from the center of your vehicle's front roof rack crossbar to the point where the roof meets the hatch on your car. If that measurement is MORE than 51-1/4 inches then the Thule Motion XT XL Rooftop Cargo Box # TH629806 will allow the hatch on your Highlander to open completely.
That is on the longer side so you may need a shorter box such as the Thule Motion XT L Rooftop Cargo Box # TH629706 which only requires that measurement to be more than 47-1/2 inches and could be a perfect choice.
